Although
Journey Church had its Grand Opening in September
2009 the
original idea and preparation started several years earlier.
While attending Moody Bible Institute in Chicago, Jim Clayton felt
called in the direction of church “planting” (starting a
church from scratch).
After considering various areas in
Illinois and Indiana, it became clear God was leading
Jim and his wife Jodi to the area that included Bargersville, Whiteland, New
Whiteland, Edinburgh, Trafalgar and Franklin. They decided
to move to Franklin, where they would start a church specifically
for people who don’t go to church. Jim and Jodi sold their
house in Illinois and moved to Franklin in June, 2008. (They
closed on their house in Franklin on June 6, the day before
the big flood.) They began networking and building
relationships with people while conducting research in the
area to determine
"unchurched" people’s needs and what they would
look for in a church.
After more than a year of preparation, Journey Church had it's Grand Opening on September 27th at Northwood Elementary School in Franklin. 313 people showed up that day to take the next step on their spiritual journey! We immediately started making plans to move to a larger facility, and only five weeks after launching we moved to our new home in the 800-seat auditorium at Franklin Community Middle School, where we continue to gather every Sunday at 11 am. Below you will find a chronology of key events.
11/15/09 - 1st Baptism Celebration - Fifteen people baptized.
12/06/09 - Generosity Project raises over $5700 to give fifteen families and
thirty-two children an awesome Christmas.
1/31/10 - 2nd Baptism Celebration - Ten people baptized.
4/11/09 - Generosity Project raises over $5500 to help two local aid agencies.
4/25/10 - 3rd Baptism Celebration - Six people baptized.
What will God do next? Come to Journey and experience it for yourself!
